Dear Member,

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.

I am writing to let you know that I am opposed to the NSW Government’s decision to privatise the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) and with it, all public disability services.

As I’m sure you know, within the next 18 months, the NSW Government plans to totally dismantle all public disability services. The government insists this must happen in order to support the rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) but this is simply a pretext for the government to rid itself of the responsibility for providing disability services to our most vulnerable citizens, including extremely vulnerable children.

I believe the NSW Government is about to make a terrible mistake if it goes ahead with the transfer of thousands of complex needs clients across to the private sector.

The NDIS is supposed to be about “choice and control” but under the NSW Government’s scheme to privatise all government run group homes and respite centres, the choice and control that many thousands of people with disability and their families have made will be completely removed.

My family and I urge you to support the continued provision of public disability services in our electorate.

We ask you to help ensure that our loved ones continue to have a genuine choice of provider, including staying with our current choice of ADHC.

We are concerned that the high standard of care we currently receive will be undermined by the departure of many highly qualified and skilled disability workers as wages and conditions are reduced by the private providers.

Once again, thank you for your attention in this matter.

Yours sincerely,

A concerned resident in your electorate
